There should be a stupid question section. I have many. IS there such a thing as FREE VoIP. That is, with open source VoIP software could one call a land line from a computer without paying anything to anyone? (except a well deserved donation to the open source organization)

I have no direct experience with VoIP. It is my understanding that with VoIP it is possible to call another VoIP customer using the same service for free. But what about when you call a landline. I know that many services charge for this. Is there a totally free VoIP service that permits one to call a landline i.e. a regular telephone. I hope this is comprehensible.
