FYI I have not installed or downloaded the application

I would like to know if it will work for my purpose.

I would in public education in the IT department.

I have been tasked with looking for ways for students to get calls at home if they miss a day of school.

We would want something similar to this.

Our student information system will generate a txt or csv file.

This will will get uploaded into system (SMB, web form)

if you would like to leave a message you may do so now .......

This message would be emailed to the someone for review.

Yes it will work for your purpose. A little bit of customization is needed for the "would be emailed to someone for review". I'd recommend you grab the free manuals here http://www.vicidial.org/store.php. If it's not enough then get the full manuals or ask questions here.

he's right. you should get the manuals and download/install on a crappy spare computer and test it out.

in fact, the task you describe would be the least "power" required for this system EVER.

out-of-the-box it would be possible to have the parent "press 1" and be transferred to the office immediately or leave a message immediately (for a human callback or to "excuse" the child). and with a fairly simple amount of setup have this voicemail emailed to the school administrator for listening straight from the inbox.

with some customization, this system could even reach out automatically and GET the attendance reports on every school day and automatically call the parents (and "error out" if there are TOO MANY, as in it's not really a school day and noone's here, LOL)

This is called broadcast dialing.

Or better yet you can make it a survey like dialing so that you can also record the parent's acknowledgment.
