Did you configure your system to use some DNS servers?

What kind of ethernet chipset are you using?

Some newer chipsets require newer drivers to work properly. There are several ASUS motherboards that we use that require new drivers under Slackware 10.2.

hi
after installing slackware 10.2
i had compile my default kernal 2.4.31
but now my network card was not detected.
ifconfig only shows
lo and not eth0
only local network is working (127.1.0.0) and it is pinging.

no eth0 is found.

127.0.0.1 = Loopback not Local Network..

If you do an 'ifconfig eth0' does it return a No Device Found? If so you are missing the driver for your ethernet card, ensure that you have the driver or LKM compiled into the kernel so that you have support for it.

Are you trying to browse based on the computer name? Browse to it based on its network IP Address and no I dont mean 127.0.0.1 i mean that actual eth0 or eth1 or whatever interface you are actually using IP addres..

Ok then try reaching the system via IP address not hostname..
