Hello,

I am planning to purchase a Sangoma UT50 for my vicibox which is already running. But I am not much aware about how it works. I have some idea that it replace inbuilt dahdi in vicibox and work as replacement of dahdi and provide better voice quality with accurate timing. Unfortunate I could not got much wiki about installation , what ever i got those really old and no use for now. Can anyone elaborate me how this songoma UT50 works and and installation procedures in vicibox 8.0.1. Agents use hard phone to outbound calling.

We stopped using and supporting the USB timers because they are not 100% reliable. We had over 100 installed in our hosted setup years ago and due to issues with USB we would have some timers "disappear" every week, and it would require a full power cycle(not a reboot) to have them recognized by the system again.

We switched to the Amfeltec PCIexpress timers and they have been working great for years now. We have installed hundreds of them so far.

Shouldn't you be reselling these?

We do resell the Amfeltec PCIexpress x1 timer cards, you just need to email sales@vicidial.com if you would like to buy one from us.

So ... they aren't on your catalog? That seems oddly unIntuitive.

When is this timing hardware needed? What kind of loads are we talking about?

There is no hard threshold for these, but what we have experienced is that at higher loads there are less audio issues or recording issues when there is a properly configured hardware time installed in the dialer.

What kind of audio and recording issues are we talking about? Recordings not being made at all? Or quality problems?

quality problems, like missing segments, skipping audio in the recording.

It provides stability at higher loads by offloading specific functions to the card. But it does not provide any features. It can allow higher workloads with the same server hardware before problems arise.

Benefit: More work from the same server hardware

Challenges: It's not free, obviously. If your server dies and you build a new one to replace it, you have to bring this hardware along for the ride for a full duplicate of the old system. Configuration may be required. Another component to troubleshoot (although apparently that's not much of an issue with the Amfeltec version).
