source_id in table vicidial_list

Can someone explain the field source_id in table vicidial_list to me? Is it processed/needed by vicidialer? Can I have two data-sets with the same source_id?

It is entirely optional. It can be whatever you want it to be as long as it fits in 6 characters. duplicate, empty, NULL, XXXXXX whatever.
