For security purpose, I would like to make the softphone receiving the phone calls only. That will prevent anyone using the softphone making calls or someone hacked to my vicidial system as extension to make calls. I use the softphone to make vicidial out bound calls only. The beauty of the vicidial is that the system makes the calls and connect to the softphone extension. It is not the softphone to make the calls. In PBX, I can restrict the extension to receive calls and dial internal extension only through custom context.

You can do that with ViciDial, just change the phones entry "Phone Context field" to either a non-existant context or a call menu with a special set of dialing rules(like the defaultlog Call Menu in 2.2.0)

Great! I might look into 2.2.0 to see if that is what I need. I need the softphone to be able to call internal extensions but not outside calls.

Which file I should edit to get this working? I edited the phone context field with context as "junk" then the phone would ring but hang up saying this is not valid phone extension. So I have to set someway for the "junk" context. but I don't know which file I should modify. Please help.

Have you upgraded to 2.2.0? This will not work in 2.0.5 unless you edit the sip.conf file directly

you can add a "junk" sip context by creating a carrier in 2.0.5
