Dialer cluster

Postby davesdatasystems » Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:13 pm

I should know a easy way to do this, but for some reason i dont, i even tried to go look how to do this at poundteam, but the website does not seem to work right now, i know they have manual, but i wanted the fastest, easiest way to cluster a second dialer to my dialer that i have right now, of course the stats are in my signature. I am going to be adding a Dell Poweredge 1850 to my system to get the stress off the old system. But i want all advice and howto on how to go forward with this before my Poweredge gets here. This is one of the few things i have never did(clustering) with Vicidial. So the more i learn and get advice, the better.
The set up i want to use will be this
database/web/asterisk/
web/asterisk

The big thing that i worry about is when i did the set up on the dialer the first time, it ask will i use this for a cluster? I said no, I dont know if that will affect anything or not.
I am in no big hurry, and i have a slight strain on my old dialer and that is the only reason i want to get the other server and cluster them.

My biggest goal is to set this up where i can split the agents between 2 servers.

Thank you for the help everyone
this is a great place with a lot of good people here.

use Vicibox 4.0.3 or above STANDARD to add another server to your cluster. the cd will quiz you, answer the questions.

you may want to look at upgrading first so you can cluster with the latest which is the most reliable method. clustering CAN be done at any version level, but the latest CDs may not be optimized for earlier versions during clustering. safest to have the latest.

i'm still not using 5.0 for any clients ... so i can't share any clustering experience with that. but I can say 4.0.3 is solid.

if you're uncertain, it's REALLY a good idea to build a two server cluster in VMware or virtualbox or vSphere or Proxmox. After you've done that three or four times, you'll be very used to it and it'll be easy.

To to be clear on this, after i do the "quiz" Its pretty much automatic as far as the clustering goes, sorry to sound like a noob, i never tried anything with clustering before. What i mean by that, there is nothing special i have to do in mysql, the cli, or editing any files.

nope. but you will need to add carriers and phones to the new server.

my advice is to add both dialer and web to it. never limit the new server's roles while building it ... make usage determinations AFTER it's built so you can change your mind. So either server can then be dialer or web, but only one of them will be DB. You can then log in to either server for web administration or as an agent screen. And the agent's phones can be registered to either server. The two functions are NOT related, there is no advantage in having an agent log his agent screen into the same server his phone is registered to.

while you're waiting, build your VMware cluster. enlightening. seriously. do it 5 times and when your real machine gets here you won't be so nervous! 8-)

VMware is free. So is vSphere, which requires a dedicated server but is VERY useful for all sorts of reasons I won't get into. 8-)
