Questions about new scratch installation based on 2.7rc1

Postby igit3450 » Thu Apr 10, 2014 12:48 pm

Hello,

I installed VD 3 or 4 years ago from scratch with success.

Now I need to install it once again so I downloaded the latest stable version from Vicidial's website (2.7rc1) but the SCRATCH_INSTALL.txt file in the docs folder was created in 2010-01-07 for v.2.2.0 so I want to ask if this documentation is still relevant and up to date?

One more and don't kill me for this one; can VD be installed on top of CentOS or it has to be a specific distro?

Thanks!

We stopped updating the entire SCRATCH INSTALL doc after our ViciBox ISO installer became a reliable option. For ease of installation and ongoing support support, it's so much easier to use ViciBox, which is what we recommend. ViciBox runs on OpenSuSE, and it isn't affected by most of the issues that you run into using CentOS on a high-capacity system. There are now thousands of systems running ViciBox Vicidial in production around the world.

Hi Matt,

ViciBox sounds great, and I would love to use it; the thing is that the server is hosted and they don't provide the option to install from an ISO image, as they have their own distros.
Any idea how we can circumvent this using ViciBox?

Thanks

We have several clients running Vicibox at hosted environments, so I guess my suggestion would be to find a provider willing to work with you.

Alternately, you can use our HOWTO (http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki/64bit) to install Vicidial 2.7RC1 on a hosted server running CentOS. You can even update to the latest Vicidial SVN version without issues. 8)

Which is actually a great method if you require CentOS. If you require Ubuntu, we have almost finished our Ubuntu installer and could use your install as a test run. Hadn't actually considered a double release, but I think it would be quite helpful to have an install script matching the iso installer using the same code. Then CentOS and Ubuntu would both be covered in addition to the Stock OpenSuSE installation. The more the merrier.

Hi Gardo, thanks for the reply.

What are the perquisites to use the guide you provided?

Do I have to have Asterisk already installed or does it take care of everything for me?

Thanks

The prerequisite is just a server installed with CentOS 5.X. The HOWTO covers everything needed to get Asterisk, Vicidial and the GOautodial applications installed. It's pretty straightforward. Check out the other HOWTOs available if you want to do more. 8)

Gardo,

I followed this guide.
I also follow all the HOWTO guides in goautodial website.
No apparent errors, but the installation is not working.

When I create phones via the admin panel that does not get replicated to the config files, as when I do sip show peers show nothing.
I also don't see any cron job running.

what could be wrong? I followed the guides thru, they are pretty simple.

Thanks

Hello William,

I accept your offer about using your installer.
Support for GoAutoDial is very scarce.

Can you please provide me more info?
I am in a hurry to get vicidial working.

Thanks

If you are in a hurry ... why not just install with Vicibox? Also, if you DO install with Vicibox, GoAutoDial or ours ... the result is pretty much the same. If you are having a problem with the system after installation, that will not change with our install over Goautodial's (in fact, it could be argued that Goautodial is the easiest install available ...).

Your best bet may be to try using the installer from Vicibox.com next, and then the manual from EFLO.net to complete the installation (do not skip any pages in the manual, perform every step even if you are sure you are wasting time ... you will end up with a functional system OR bring us the page/line number and we'll get you past the hump!).

Or you can lease one, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a test run by someone quite this inexperienced (we'd end up walking you through every step and you'd probably not appreciate the invoice ... whereas the manual from EFLO.net is ALSO a walk-through and does not involve an invoice at the end! LOL).

Next step would be to follow the GOautodial Getting Started Guide here: http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki/Goautodial_Getting_Started_Guidev3 if you're new with GOautodial or Vicidial. After getting your system up and running, you can check our different tutorials/HOWTOs in our wiki page: http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki.

From what I've seen, either method works well. The only question is whether you want "pretty Goautodial screens" that won't be compatible with the latest Vicidial code (they tend to lag a bit, or a lot, depending on the season, but they are pretty) or Stock Vicidial which is NOT pretty but usually very well debugged and has the latest code (and toys! some of which can be quite useful!). But both give a functional system.

I still like the Vicibox.com .iso installer, though, honestly. Works best.
