USB Headsets

Postby dreedy » Wed Apr 09, 2025 8:48 am

Hello everyone,

I have been having an issue with headsets for a while and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or has suggestions on headsets that work with vicidial. we are using a Plantronics blackwire 5220 atm but we have tried others in the past such as jpl element and Plantronics c500. in all cases the mute button will get stuck on and i have to unplug the usb headset to reset the device. this primary happens on the Plantronics. In all cases the headset will stop functioning and require us to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working again.

System setup for the phones.

We use webrtc with vicidial.

and we also use microsip for the pbx

So each user has a phone for each system.

Has anyone else experianced issues with usb headsets?

not likely in any way related to Vicidial, or even asterisk. If the SAME problem happens with multiple physical hardware headsets, It might be microsip. try another soft phone on one station. of course if all your workstations have the same hardware/OS it could be something to do with the OS compatibility with microsip or even a fault in the chipset on the wrokstation. try one workstation with different hardware and/or web browser and/or OS.

But: "a phone for each system"? This bothers me. I hope you mean microsip has an account for each dialer and not that you have multiple microsip instances running on each workstation. LOL (Just the way you said it made my eyebrow raise, I don't walk away from that stuff ...LOL)

been through several softphones with pbx. zoiper, jitsi, microsip.
The PBX phone is microsip and is a seperate system.
The dialer is webrtc and its own system.

Each computer has 2 phones one for the pbx and one for the dialer. We have been through several computer types.

Not just because I'm an asshole, but because clients often make statements they think are complete and leave we Support guys to Assume what they mean. Then we revisit that "assumption" after a fair amount of production hours. I don't assume any more 8-)

Are you saying you experienced "mute button will get stuck on" with all this hardware? Microsip AND zoiper, jitsi, WEbRTC/ViciPhone AND "several computer types"?

Mentioning the types would be good, too. I have had clients who installed Vicidial on "several servers" that turned out to ALL have the same chipset which was not compatible with Vici (was a while ago, of course).

And are we talking about a mute button in Vicidial interface or PBX interface or on the soft phone itself?

I haven't forgotten about this and will need a bit of time to see if i can get all the detail together for your question. this has been a bad problem for me for a couple of years now and i would like to get down to the bottom of it.
