as for your question,

The difference is that the other is open source and free, the latter is not and you need to use it on production environment.

Seriously you are using a free open source pbx, a free predictive dialer. Would it bother people if they just pay up 10 usd per channel for a g729 license? You are also helping the company who developed the one you are using. You also get an expert digium certified asterisk professional support for that codec if problem arises. Aint that a charm?

Just to reclarify, if the codec is used in a production environment you must pay the royalties. Using the Intel/g729 in a production environment is a no no...
