VDAD is going bonkers

I dunno what happened, but my system has been driving me nuts today. :x I've got 4 servers set up with load-balancing. Everything has been going fine and even better after I did my boot camp last week.

But today autodialer seems to be going bonkers. I does not seem to be tracking with which agents are READY and which ones are INCALL.

For example, out of desperation (because 7-8 people were not on the phone for over a minute) on the floor Supervisor set campaign for 2.5 RATIO dialing and still would have 3-4 agents READY and only 1 or NO calls being placed.

Then he cranked it to 4.0 RATIO dialing. And still there would be 5-6 agents waiting and 4 calls being placed.

Then, as agents' idle time would go over 1 minute or more, the VDAD would finally "realize" and start catching up and place calls, but still only maybe 1 or 2 over however many agents are READY.

Then all or most of the people would get on the phones and some calls might get dropped.

Then the story repeats. Several guys get off the phone and are sitting there for half a minute with NO LIVE CALLS BEING PLACED.

The things we changed since it was working yesterday and first part of the day today:

- I increased size of phone_number field to 20 characters in vicidial_list table (to fit international numbers with prefix)

- yesterday I set up lead recycling for different types of calls. (I noticed that timeout field appears to be signed int16 type, so if it is greater than 32767 it overflows and becomes negative. So I made sure all my timeouts are less than that)

- Overall agents' time on call was longer today than usually. Normally it's around 5 minutes with some calls running longer. Today there were many calls that ran over 20 minutes. I thought this was throwing off the predictive dialer, which is why we set it to RATIO dailing. But it would still not dial more than 1.0 ratio

If anybody can give a pointer where I should look for problems, I would appreciate that.

I would suggest to have a look on asterisk console when dialer is making calls . There's a good chance it is dialing some invalid numbers . I have seen this type of behaviour with bad leads , numbers were not proper in the list and VDAD dials them but asterisk does not make any calls since numbers doesnt match any extension .

hey aster1, I did check it out and seems to dial correct numbers. I was looking at the mysql/php server and cpu usage is constantly above 50% and sometimes jumps to 99.9%. (Looks like my server is POS really :shock: )

I wonder is sluggishness of the database might be causing the VDAD to act a little slow?

Did anyone experience such a thing?

I would stop using lead recycling for anything but Busys, and even then never for more than 2 hours.

As for load, that can cause all sorts of problems, but in your case I would suggest looking at the AST_VDauto_dial.pl output(attach to the screen when you are having problems), as well as checking to see if there are any vicidial_auto_calls records that are stuck.

Hey Matt, thanks for the directions.

I looked at the output of ASTVDAuto and not really knowing what I should be seeing, I noticed several 'lagged' calls. Dunno if it means anything or not. You can see some samples of the output of the script that I captured (posted below).

I also checked the vicidial_auto_calls table and saw 2 records from 1 of apr and some records from today's early afternoon. Should I just nuke them?

I am gonna start another thread on lead recycling, as I find the concept of this feature very useful for me, but maybe there are other ways around it.

Can't wait when my new servers arrive... :)

I don't see anything that stands out from glancing at it.

Do you have the AST_reset_mysql_vars.pl script set to run at night in the crontab?

I checked the crontab and it's set to run at 1:02am. The database server has completely crapped out last night (hard drive failed) and I had to move it to another server. It seems to be running much better since. It must have been the load

I've been monitoring vicidial_auto_calls and I noticed that I am constantly getting leads stuck there. What would be causing that?

Any ideas?

They can get stuck for a variety of reasons, some of which are:
- no 'h' extension call_log entry in all contexts of the dialplan
- altering of the callerID information of a call somewhere in the dialplan
- high system load issues
