Perl problem

When I typing install MD5 the command says cannot install MD5, dont know what it is

Can anyone tell whats wrong in it.

the problem actually I thing cannot fetch MIRRORED.BY

I changed plenty of times which I think should work. I used
http://cpan.mirror.rafal.ca/src/ and other ones listed in th web.

at end it says "commit: wrote /usr/lib/perl15/5.8.7/CPAN/Config.pm"

That's a Perl Issue I have not run into. Is your server connected to the internet?

Yes I think its not connected. While setting up slackware a put the same address in nameserver as the gateway which I think shouldnt be. AT present I using static public IP address and want to connect directly with my ISP/s DNS. I think I need to change my nameserver to the address provided by my carrier. How can i get out from here and conf the network setting. The screen at present is in cpan>

you can change the DNS server setting in the /etc/resolve.conf file

you can change your network settings in the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file

I know where the problem is now. when I type ifconfig -a
There is no ethernet card listed. It only says
"lo Link encap.... " and below

Any faster idea of doing this. I am sure this hardware is supported.

do you have any lancard? do you have internet connection?

if yes what's your kernel version make sure your lancard can detect the driver.

try typing lspci and see if your lancard has correct drivers

I have a lan card and internet connection. I am using kernal 2.4 that comes in the slackware 10.2.

so the system detects a lancard..
but when you type ifconfig you didn't see eth0 am i right?

try this:

ifconfig eth0 up

then type

ifconfig

try if you can see the eth0.

i stuck up in selecting urls (BY NUMBERS) . i tried several options but says invalid items entered . how should i put it?

I have a suspicion that you may have hardware issues.

Here's an idea: dnload another linux distro liveCD, boot off it and see if you get network/internet access.

when it shows you the list of mirrors you should be able to type like

1 2 3 4

that should work for you (note the spaces between choices).

I had a similar problem. I had to probe the card in the beginning of the slackware installation , by typing network , then P tg3 (thats for a broadcom eth0 card, if it was realtek then it should be P 8139too - a full list is available if we type L <return> in the network > prompt.) , then <return> before using the setup command. Then the machine browsed well. Thanks to slackers from the freenode channel for that help.
