how to restore a backup

I am having an issue and thought perhaps I could re-install. But I have a heap of lists and recordings etc that I would like to restore. How hard is it to restore everything on a fresh install? I do not know my way around the file directory Vicidial; that is, I couldn't tell you what folder the lists are in, or the dial plans, etc. So is restoring over my head?

I would recommend to setup an archive server to store all your recordings there. and u cud use some commands to backup the database. Vicidial has a way to backup this but not sure where to find it coz I use different method "mysqldump"

I know the script for the Vicidilal backup. But, as far as I know, there is no script to restore the backup. I do not know how to put things back. Even if I knew where to find the lists and campaigns from the backup and where to put them on the server to restore them that would be a help in getting a clean server set up.

what are the things u think u needed to restore from backup? do u have a list?

If i am not mistaken u are a single server only am i right?

I am single server only so my list to backup are recordings and database only. i have to move the recordings to an archive server and used mysqldump for backup and restore of database. I already did these method for a few times now and it is working for me.

I do not have customer recordings to backup. I have recordings for servey campaigns as well as the survey setup. I have many lists and to restore everything manually would take hours, If I could just drag and drip all the lists from a backup to a server that would be great. IS something like that possible?

yes it is possible. When I backup my server it took only 5 to 10 mins then all of the leads,campaigns setup,DID,stats,etc.. are in there. then when I restore my backup it took me the same amount of time. I just have to use the same IP server ip address then do a rebuild under admin and reboot. check my screen if there are 9 sockets and good to go.

is this something that u like i guess?

I am a Linux/Vicidial noob. So when I backup the data I will need to remove it from the server as I intend to do a fresh install of Vicibox. So I install Vicibox but then what precisely do I do to "rebuild under Admin"? How does it know where to look for my backup?

I did the same thing. I had to remove it from the server transfer it to another linux machine or get it by FTP.

I could guide u step by step if u like.

first thing do u have extra server/machine other than ur current dialer server?

we could backup the database from ur running server and restore it to new test machine.

I would be very grateful if you could be my guide here. This is a skill I need to learn. I only have the one server but if it doesn't work it is not the end of the world, just a few hours of work so I can take the chance of it failing.

first thing first, do u have your installer the one u used when u installed on ur server? this is so u cud have same version and build

using same installer is what I recommend, but there are always the option of updating ur database to latest.

I installed with Vicibox express 3.1.8 which I don't have now. I am presently downloading 3.1.15. IS that close enough?

Nope. with this u will be needing to upgrade your database since DB schema is different with the current installer

i suggest u tried to upgrade ur SVN version first

this may also save u time of re-installing since you will be having new system with a fixed for the old versions

I am such a noob. I can't recall where the back up files go to on the server. Can you tell me?

Also - to be clear - if the truck upgrade is successful all my lists and campaigns will be there and working. Yes?

welll........ I did the upgrade but now I cannot follow this step:

6. For each of your ViciDial servers:

go to the Admin -> Servers -> Modify Server
page and set each one to "Rebuild conf files = Y" and click submit.
This will rebuild the conf files to ensure any changes are updated.

because I do not have permission to do so. Not only that, there are no users and I do not have permission to create one that would have the ability to do step 6 of the upgrade.

yes u must.. problem here is the database not being updated. we need to update DB Schema.
