clarification regarding the multi-server setup

Postby pagmasakpan » Tue Aug 21, 2012 12:48 pm

I just want to clarify if the database server will be messed out or will be deleted specifically all the settings like carriers, lists, admin users, etc.. if want another server(Web/Asterisk only) will be connected to the database server.

I’m just confusing whether it would be delete or not.

because I found out in the multiserver setup.pdf

under the Something to remember: "You have just "deactivated" the local MYSQL server on each server other than the Database server. This means that any settings, entries, etc (like carriers, lists, etc) in those server are no longer in use. All the servers now look to the Database server for their data and have forgotten everything they knew before then.

Since Vicidial rebuild its configuration files from the database, the next time the configuration files are rewritten(which well do shortly), all prior entries on each of the servers will be deleted. So phones that WERE registers will cease to work. Carriers will disappear . Admin logons are gone.

Just a reminder that the database on the Database server is now in charge, all other data and all items controlled by that data have just been forgotten"

Can anybody here can explain broadly in the 2nd paragraph..?

I am trying to understand waht you are asking I think you are asking if the database server goes down in a multiserver setup will all the cluster continue to operate and will the settings be saved.

The short answer is no. The cluster will go down and you will lose all your settings that were programmed into the vici database. There are ways to mitigate the downtime on the database server however the main feature of the clustering is to minimize the downtime of the asterisk boxes going down and to distribute load.

What I mean is i had already a full running server(asterisk, web, ftp, database running) which is installed from goautodial.iso. This server is currently we use during the operation.

and I want another server(only asterisk, web running) that will be connected to full running server in which i want also to become a main database server

I really want to know whether my full server database(all the settings) will be deleted or not? If i want to cluster or connect the 2nd server to the full server because I dont want to enable the database of my 2nd server(only asterisk, web running only)

You could just set the max channels to 0, shut down asterisk, and set active asterisk server to N in the server settings. Then just add the other server, migrate everyones settings in vici to the new server and then rebuild the config files on the server by settings rebuild conf files to Y.
