High % dropped calls - 40%+ on Broadcast Campaign

Postby tuanle55 » Sun Sep 16, 2012 9:45 am

New Installation in lab environment -

Using ViciBox_Redux.x86_64-3.1.15
perl 5, version 12, subversion 1 (v5.12.1),PHP 5.3.3 (cli),Asterisk 1.4.39.2-vici/Dahdi 2.6.1-9.1, Apache/2.2.15 (Linux/SUSE)
Vicidial build (VERSION: 2.2.1-237 BUILD: 100510-2015).

Server Settings
Max VICIDIAL Trunks: 96
Max Calls per Second: 2

System Settings
Max FILL Calls per Second: 2

Campaign - Mostly default settings when making a new one except for the following changes
VDAD Extension - 8364
Hopper - Tested from using 1 to 100.
Dial Method: Tried Ratio with Auto Dialer Level 3 to using the Adapt methods
Remote Agent 777 - 100 Available lines. External extension set to a recorded file 85100006

I setup my carrier trunk pointing to a local asterisk server to simply answer the call and loop a message back for 15 seconds and then hangup.

Call log looks clean. Every call was answered and properly terminated so I don't understand why the stats are reporting dropped calls. The only quirks with my installation was asterisk script did not start I believe maybe due to dahdi being upgraded by the OS update. So after a server boot, I start up dahdi manually using "service dahdi start" follow by /usr/share/astguiclient/start_asterisk_boot.pl

I'm new to vicidial but have 7 years of experience (dCAP certified) working on Asterisk and know my way around a linux system working with httpd/apache. I appreciate any help I can get.

Re: High % dropped calls - 40%+ on Broadcast Campaign

Postby tuanle55 » Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:21 am

Using the same settings, I switched it from a broadcast campaign to a Press 1 / Survey changing the VDAD ext to 8366 / Ratio (1) dialing. Slowly ramped up from Hopper Level 1 to 100. The simultaneous # of calls is around 36 at my current settings for this press 1 campaign.

Using the same remote agent, dropped calls so far are not being reported. The Press 1 survey report looks great too. I switch between sending a "1 key" / "2 key" on my test asterisk box answering the call and all stats look good. I was getting "dropped calls" on my broadcast campaign even with just 3 or less simultaneous calls.

1) While you apparently tried really hard to post your specs, you missed the single most important (and required) piece of information: Vicidial Version with Build. Found on most Admin screens after the word "VERSION: ".

2) You "mentioned" the problem of dropped calls, but show no evidence or example of where the dropped calls are shown. Report? Real time?

3) Another interesting concept is that you seem to believe "8364" is a "broadcast" campaign, which may be an interesting semantic issue. When you use 8364 or 8368, you are expected to have a live agent accept the call immediately. The recipient of the call says "hello" and the system (vicidial) will attempt to connect that recipient to an agent for "Campaign Modify -> drop calls seconds" seconds. If an agent is not located and connected within this timeframe the call is "dropped" and the "drop call action" is performed.

Which leads me to believe the system is working perfectly. Perhaps you need a little training? 8-)

4) Welcome to the party! 8-)

Thanks for the prompt reply on a Sunday afternoon! I thought by posting the ISO version implied what vicidial build I was using. I updated my original post with Vicidial build (VERSION: 2.2.1-237 BUILD: 100510-2015).
The Real-time / report shows this drop call. In the manual, 8364 is described as "8364(for the BROADCAST settings)" so in my newbieness introduction into Vicidial world, I associated with broadcast campaigns. So what I setup was a remote agent which is really just an extension to play out a WAV file which is there that I verified. I thought I had bumped up the "drop call seconds" from 5 to 10 thinking that was the issue but thought my remote agent has "100" lines (which I had bumped to the max as well) should not cause any calls to be missed. I personally did not see any dropped calls looking at the asterisk CLI on both the vicibox and my test asterisk box receiving the calls.

Code: Select all
---------- DROPS
Total Outbound DROP Calls:                         12709  40.45%
Percent of DROP Calls taken out of Answers:        12709 / 30725  41.36%
Average Length for DROP Calls in seconds:           6.18
Productivity Rating:                                2.03

Modifying broadcast campaign/drop calls seconds to 10 did not help.

You are absolutely right I do need some training which I'll contact your group in the very near short future about training/support.

Code: Select all
DIAL LEVEL:     3       TRUNK SHORT/FILL:     354 / 0        FILTER:     NONE      TIME:      2012-09-18 20:27:35

DIAL TIMEOUT:     60     TAPER TIME:     2100     LOCAL TIME:     24hours     AVAIL ONLY:     N
DIALABLE LEADS:     0        CALLS TODAY:     58        AVG AGENTS:     150        DIAL METHOD:     RATIO
HOPPER LEVEL:     5        DROPPED / ANSWERED:     8 / 8      DL DIFF:     150        STATUSES:     DROP, AA, NA, N, XDROP, NEW
LEADS IN HOPPER:     0        DROPPED PERCENT:     100%       DIFF:     100.00%        ORDER:     RANDOM

Ran another mini broadcast campaign using 8369. The dropped percent of 100 makes no sense. I answered 1 call and the message came on perfectly and my list stats show the rest of the other calls I did not answer being AMD which is great too.

You are running on a fairly old version of the software. You should consider upgrading to 2.4 (release) or 2.6 (trunk).

The .iso will install any one of several versions and in many cases the version is based on SVN and will then be dynamic based on what was available when you performed the install. So ... always post your version. LOL

10 is an awful high drop seconds number. If you don't get an agent on the phone with a callee sooner than that, you're likely to seriously piss someone off. Broadcast dialing is virtually illegal these days anyway so ... I'd honestly advise modifying your system to be sure you always have an agent available and set your drop seconds to TWO or Zero where it belongs. (Yep, that's my opinion.)

You do not need an "extension" to play a WAV file, the Vicidial Survey system will manage all that for you. Change your Exten to 8366 and click on "Survey" inside the Campaign Modify Details page. And then open the manual (and do not make any changes to the "default" campaign without running another test to be sure you didn't just screw it up ... and if you DID screw it up, put it back the way it was and test that you've fixed it before moving forward again ... I get a lot of calls on this, but taken slowly it can be done by anyone with patience).

All I recall was during the ISO post-installation to get Vicidial up, there was an option to use the SVN update. I had answered YES but that caused a timeout and the install would fail so I went with the option not to use the SVN build and presumed a recent ISO should have not be that far behind.

In any case, I'll try your method. The manual says to use what I have for the "Broadcast Campaign" but I'll use the Survey to accomplish the same thing.
As far any "legal matter", thats not a support issue for us techs and for the clients/lawyers running the campaign to decide on.
