registration time-outs and outbound calling errors

Postby irvin700 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 12:16 am

VICIDIAL VERSION: 2.4-325c BUILD: 110430-1924

Hello, I had been having this particular problem where we have numerous in-calls and calling FLAWLESSLY then out of nowhere it just stops where we can't seem to dial out anymore, but the in-calls continues. When I look at the logs, We get the registration time-outs and when I go to "sip show registry" it shows that it has sent requests, but no luck. We use Nextiva as our sip trunk provider and it has just been frustrating of what it's going on. However, Nextiva DOES see the numbers getting called, but with a "unavailable" message on the call history, so I know it's dialing out. Calling a crapload at once seem to aggravate it.

I would show logs here, but our business is currently closed so I have no really way to get a good test until tomorrow, so i'll keep up to date about my situation.

Has anyone here have this problem before? =P

1) Welcome to the Party! 8-)

2) when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

3) You stated that your registrations time-out. I presume you mean the registration from your Vicidial server to your Carrier and will answer based on that assumption. In this situation you need (need!) to find out what is blocking these packets. It could be your Vicidial server overloading, your local network overloading, your router (assuming your Vicidial server has a router between it and the internet), an actual problem in the path between your Internet connection and the Carrier's internet connection (highly unlikely) or the carrier itself has stop responding to your registration requests.

A few possible causes (not in the order of likelihood, just possibilities in general):
Brute Force SIP or SSH login attack on your Asterisk server (this would be evidenced in your "iftop" network usage and /var/log/asterisk logs during and after the attack respectively)
Poor network connection causing the round trip to exceed your "qualify" setting (set qualify=no as a test)
Usage exceeded at your carrier (some carriers will "cut you off" for several minutes is you exceed, for instance, 5 calls per second without an agreement allowing you to do so).

A few tests/fixes:
During the time of "break", try pinging your carrier from your Vicidial server.
Turn off all other internet during an occurrence (no agent or manager internet access, only Asterisk should be able to reach out)
Get Vicidial its own external IP that does not go through a router (be sure you have a whitelist IPTables firewall in your Vicidial server before attempting this ...)

I created an account to justgovoip and it has been running flawlessly ever since. When I switched it back to nextiva, it started to time out again. Very odd. The dialer CAN dial out, but it's the reply from the server that doesn't come back. As it does that, the registration times out.

If this keeps up in a couple days, I'll just consider this post as solved. 8)

"Usage exceeded at your carrier (some carriers will "cut you off" for several minutes is you exceed, for instance, 5 calls per second without an agreement allowing you to do so)." <----this is likely the most likely answer. I'll talk to nextiva the day about this,

And remember that most sales reps will deny this, but that would be because it's not a "policy" per se, more of a "system capability" issue. And they are not going to admit system restrictions. LOL

That makes a lot more sense now. I read the their ToS yesterday that says not to use dialers...even though our sales rep said that they can do it. Oh well. It will be good as a secondary trunk. If anyone else have this problem, you can try another trunk provider specifically made for telemarketing calls and then the other trunk as a secondary via random. This is the dialplan I have it set up as:

exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,1,AGI(agi://127.0.0.1:4577/call_log)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,Set(Trunk=${RAND(1|10)})
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 1]?trunkA)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 2]?trunkB)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 3]?trunkC)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 4]?trunkD)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 5]?trunkE)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 6]?trunkF)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 7]?trunkG)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 8]?trunkH)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 9]?trunkI)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,GoToIf($[${Trunk} = 10]?trunkJ)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkA),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkB),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkC),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkD),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkE),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkF),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkG),Dial(${GOVOIP2}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkH),Dial(${NEXTIVA6}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkI),Dial(${NEXTIVA6}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n(trunkJ),Dial(${NEXTIVA6}/${EXTEN:1},,tToR)
exten => _71XXXXXXXXXX,n,Hangup

So for each call, there is a 3/10 chance that it will dial Nextiva. Good for us, since our primary trunk provider is a pay-as-you-go payment model. Good for Nextiva, since we are not bombarding them with dialing calls so much at the same time.

It's all good now though, It's solved. Thank you for the tip. :D
