I would recommend getting Dual core systems as 30-40 agents with g729 and full recording a pentium 4 3.06 ghz is NOT going to be sufficient.

With G729, even a dual core might not be able to handle 40 agents depending on the maximum dial level that you plan on using.

How many lines per agent do you plan on having as your maximum?

I don't run G729, but 30 agents at a 1.5-2.0 might be possible. Anyone else with G729 systems that wants to comment?

on a dual xeon box maybe. one thing I learned from working in a very high pressured call center. if they can afford the hardware make them pay for it.

If you plan to expand at any point I would agree with Matt and 0p3r

2 Asterisk/VICIDIAL Servers
1 Database/Apache Server

dont skimp on the hardware go with Dual Core systems plenty of memory and SCSI drives if possible..

Snoms are very nice phones. I have a Snom 200(3 years old) and it still works great. Web interface for configurations and some interesting ring-tones.
