Load Balancing... deprecated document?

Cluster install... 2 telephony, 1 DB, 1 Web.
VERSION: 2.4-357a
BUILD: 120125-2107
Built from VICIBOX
-------------

Hello,

I just recently added a 2nd telephony server to my cluster in order to try and balance some of the load I've been getting lately.

I've installed the server using the ViciBox ISO and "added" it at the DB (through the web GUI). The only other thing which I've done is set the options at both telephony servers (at Admin -> Servers) to have ViciDial Balance Dialing = Y.

Please advise if there's anything else that needs to be done. Should I follow the LOAD_BALANCING.txt to a T?

Thanks

Anybody have an idea about this? I noticed the document and checked the manager's manual but did not see any updated information about Load Balancing...

Actually, maybe this isn't necessarily "Load Balancing" but "Balanced Dialing".

For example, can I have all of my agents register their softphones with "Telephony Server 1", but have that server offload some of its dialing to "Telephony Server 2" ?

Anybody have any updated instructions or pointers for load balancing?

Thanks!

Yes it balanced dialing you want. I think most of this is covered in the managers manual.

Nothing really there, besides the small notes that are already part of the dialer's help files.

Well you should be good then to enable balanced dialing on both servers, rank the other server higher. Make sure you have Generate Cross-Phone server extensions enabled under system settings and rebuild your server config files.

Which server would you actually register the soft-phones to? Would it matter?

Whichever one their phone is set to under admin->phones. You can change it under that same place to be on another server.

Right but then i dont see the point of it being load balancing, if i need to manually change each phone registration by hand as necessary?

If you register the softphones to both servers you can use phone aliases to have phone login load balancing which will evenly distribute your active agents across the two servers as they login.
