Please forgive if this is a silly question - new to vicidial

Okay - I am attempting to install Vicidial on a host with some issues.

I am using the install guid from

elhabib-birouk dot blogspot dot com (cannot post URLs yet - sorry)

Now, when I get to the dahdi-linux-complete-2.3.0.1+2.3.0 section, of course, we need to build kernel modules.

If I am not using any special hardware, just straight Ethernet, do I need to do this step? Is it necessary?

Thanks

Hi Glen.

Welcome to the world of vicidial!

The easiest and recommended way to get up and running is using the vicibox.iso which will install most things got you.

Check out www.vicibox.con

From here you can download the required ISO and there is a walk through on how to install.

Regards
Vicibox 4.0.3 ISO install.

Thank you for this...

However, I would love to go that route, but I cannot.

It is being installed on a virtual host using a linux-vserver image/guest. I have to put my own kernel sources and headers to compile/build/load modules. A bit of a pain.

This is why I am asking about this. I can do everything else, but for the dahdi linux stuff, you need to build and load modules.

So, if these are not necessary and Vicidial can work without them, I am good. If not, I have to figure out a way around this.

Thanks

Glen

You can speak to your host and see if they will compile for you.Or have a look at someone like vr.org who have images ready to deploy

Yeah I guess you need dahdi because wanpipe is a part of that or something like that, and some time-stuff is needed... I don't remeber right now.
Is there any problem installing the kernel headers?

Strongly, strongly recommend AGAINST running ViciDial in a virtualized environment...

Is there any particular reason you are doing this?
