Hi,
one of our customers has the following requirements:
about 70 agents with softphones on G729 codec only
trunks on G711u (transcoding required)
Inbound calls only - simple queue with many agents(no overflow, no auto dialing)
Call volume: about 20-30K short calls a day
No recording at this stage
The server they have is:
IBM x366
4 x Quad 3.66GHz processors
16GB of 1033Mhz RAM
70GB 15K SAS drives (in Raid 1 configuration)
Do you think it is possible to run a GoAutoDial successfully for these specs without any autodialing?
Should the recording be introduced in the RAMdisk will it run the server into a halt?
Thank you greatly in advance.

I think even with full recording you should be fine as long as it is all in-bound.
Do you expect all 70 lines to ever be at capacity?

I wouldn't suggest G729 because that can use a lot of resources, but we have stretched a single system to handle 100 inbound agents with full recording. We do not recommend it, but it is possible. If you start to queue up a lot of calls it will cause problems. I would recommend using a multi-server system, it will cost you less money, will handle more calls and agents, and offer better redundancy.

Just one query, Is the server going to be local to the agents or a hosted server?
If it is going to be local why use g729 to agents? If the server is going to be hosted in same network I dont see an advantage of using g729 it will just cause more load on server for no advantage.

If you have to use g729 I would recommend getting one of the Sangoma Transcoding cards.
