Hi Guys.

I am just wondering if it is possible, and if so how easy it would be to implement differentiating between a call that goes straight to answering machine and one that rings first.

We run answering machine detection and we ring all mobile phones. We therefore get a lot of phones that are turned off or out of signal and we want to keep trying them quite frequently, however this means that we annoy customers whose phones are switched on but unable to answer by leaving lots of missed calls.

I am wondering therefore if it is possible to Disposition calls that have had an answering machine instantly differently to ones that have rung for a number of seconds and then got an answering machine?

Anyone got any ideas?

By default, there is nothing in Vicidial that can do this.

Although you may look at your carrier log (a table in vicidial) to see if there is a useful entry.

However, if you use the Asterisk CDR system it could likely give you a report (and there is a version that will allow this to be stored in a DB for ease of data access and scripting ...) of how long between "dial" and "answer" and possibly even "ring", depending on your provider's configuration/reporting. Could be a very interesting experimental feature that could be very useful from a statistical standpoint as well as for your stated purpose. 8-)

Thanks for the reply.

I have had a quick look at the carrier log and this has the dial time so would be fairly easy to get from there.

If it is detected as an answering machine but has a dial timeout of say less than 5 seconds then it could be classed as going straight to answerphone but if it has a 20 sec dial time then answerphone it probably rang the customers phone.

Now how on earth would I go about starting to make the system differentiate between the two and dispossition accordingly?

Do you know much about the sangoma CPA and does this have the ability to do this?
