Some problems...

Postby Elanar » Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:22 am

Hey Guys.

Please excuse my bad english, im from germany and hope, i can tell you me problems understandable.

I have a dedicated remote server with Debian 6.0 minimal. On this server I would ike to install Vicidial.

I use this HowTo for installing:
Code: Select all
http:** elhabib-birouk .blogspot.de/ 2011/12/vicidial-installation-on-debian-squeeze.html

(I´m sorry, but the spamfilter didn´t allow me to post the URL here.
I do all steps exactly like in the HowTo, but I got some problems:

First problem is the step to start Vicidial automatically. I get this error:
Code: Select all
update-rc.d: using dependency based boot sequencing
update-rc.d: warning: vicidial start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) do not match LSB Default-Start values (3 4 5)
update-rc.d: warning: vicidial stop runlevel arguments (0 1 6) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (0 1 2 6)

Then, after installing and starting Vicidial/Asterisk manually, I have only 3 queues when I´m using screen -ls. But it should be seven (if the HowTo is right). And all queues are detached...

Code: Select all
2616.ASTVDauto  (29.07.2012 11:54:03)   (Detached)
        1526.ASTVDadapt (29.07.2012 11:39:04)   (Detached)
        1528.ASTfastlog (29.07.2012 11:39:04)   (Detached)

I don´t know if detached is the right status for the queues? And where are the others?

But I can start Apache and Vicidial so I can use the Adminsite eg.

But the last problem is, that i can´t connect with X-Lite 3 to the Asterisk server. I get the error 408.

I know, I´m new with such a complex software and have to learn a lot, but because of my bad english, i dont know, what to search to solve these problems.

I hope you can help me or someone can give me a link to a better HowTo. I tried also with "Vicidial for dummies" but with this, I can´t complete the installation (to old versions in the HowTo I think).

Please ask if you need more information about the system e.g. And please don´t say "use a Vicidial hoster". They are expensive and a) I don´t have money for such service, and b) I want to learn how to setup a Vicidial server.

Code: Select all
asterisk -R
stop now

after it stops:

Code: Select all
asterisk -vvvvc

during this startup process there will likely be an "error" (perhaps a problem with sip.conf ...). Read the entire startup statement and find the problem, then trace it.

But what you are doing is NOT for the light-of-heart. Scratch installs cost $500 as a rule, because they are not easy.

You would do Very Well to ensure that your OS version precisely matches that of the directions that you have chosen to use (ie: do not try to use directions for Ubuntu 8.04LTS for Ubuntu 12.04LTS, cuz it won't work!) and you follow these chosen directions precisely as well. And remember that since those instructions were written, many packages will have evolved (even though the OS number is the same ...), some of which may no longer be compatible with Vicidial, Asterisk, Dahdi ...etc and require a workaround.

Add to that the fact that you are not an asterisk pro or a vicidial pro ... and you could have a long summer ahead of you trying to install this software.

Are you SURE you cannot use Vicibox's .iso (vicibox.com) or GoAutoDial's .iso (goautodial.com)?

There are also Ubuntu installation instructions included in the source code for Vicidial (Ubuntu is a Debian derivative), you may want to peruse those installation instructions for help as well.

Happy hunting :)

I´m sure I can´t use the .iso files. Believe me, after two days of work i WISH i could use them :D But my hoster say it is not possible to startup the server with an .iso... :(

I read a lot and now i can hear the "Hello World" testfile and can connect to asterisk. I don´t want to think on Vicidial now :D The greatest problem now is, that i can call another telephone but without sound... If this problem is solved, i try to connect Asterisk and Vicidial ;-)

if you get no sound, it is usually a firewall issue. i generally don't use a firewall at all during troubleshooting of sound ...

sometimes it is the "externip" setting in sip.conf. if you are on a private network.

I dont think you should give up on the idea to install vicibox.
have you tried connecting a USB-CD?
have you tried booting the iso from a usb-flash-drive?
have you tried setting up a PXE-server to boot the iso?
use google to find out how to do this things.

but regarding the screens, yes they should be detached, but yeah your missing some...
try to restart the vicidial service:
/etc/init.d/vicidial stop
/etc/init.d/vicidial start
and check the respond you get.

and have you added the stuff to crontab that is needed?
