Slack install problem on IBM x-series 206

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Slack 10.2 on an IBM x-series 206 server with 80 GB SATA. The problem is when I compile the new kernel 2.6.15.6, on reboot i see :-

' VFS : cannot mount fs '

and the machine does not boot.

The SATA is on secondary, could that be a problem? But how do i make the SATA primary as there is a CD rom on primary?

Plz advice.

Thanx in advance.

Dev.

Do you have all of the SATA and SCSI-emulation kernel modules loaded?

SATA as primary or secondary doesn't matter at allif the primary is a CDROM.

I haven't built 2.6.15, but in 2.6.17 they are in the drivers, SCSI section for SATA support, then you need to go to the IDE drivers and activate the SATA chipset that you are using.

Thanx for the link.

I've found this http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/ans ... kware_10_1

Can this in any way be useful?

Or do i build 2.6.17 only?

Thanx in advance.

Looks like it is pretty good, but I would recommend 2.6.27 since there are a lot of fixes and updated drivers in the kernel since 2.6.10.
