Zombie Channel ?

Postby Iz3k34l » Wed Aug 07, 2013 11:10 am

OK, i am having a problem where calls are being dropped anywhere from 15 minutes into the call to about 15:45 into the call.

when i grep'ed the /var/log/astguiclient directory with the offending phone number and with a non-offending phone number they both progress pretty much the same except for the following;

Code: Select all
listen.2013-08-06:Newname: Local/91701867xxxx@default-157f,1<ZOMBIE>
listen.2013-08-06:Channel1: Local/91701867xxxx@default-157f,2
listen.2013-08-06:Channel2: Local/91701867xxxx@default-157f,1<ZOMBIE>
listen.2013-08-06:Channel: Local/91701867xxxx@default-157f,2
listen.2013-08-06:Channel: Local/91701867xxxx@default-157f,1<ZOMBIE>

where as here is the excerpt from a normal call
Code: Select all
listen.2013-08-05:CallerIDName: 13080517xxxx_316722xxxx_hjx_446412_CINELD-B
listen.2013-08-05:CallerIDName: 13080517xxxx_316722xxxx_hjx_446412_CINELD-B
listen.2013-08-05:CallerIDName: 13080517xxxx_316722xxxx_hjx_446412_CINELD-B

and in the normal phone call the following line only happens two or three times, but in the dropped calls it happens about 200 times
Code: Select all
vdautodial.2013-08-06:2013-08-06 08:30:11||     dead call vac XFERd do nothing|389610|7018672883|XFER||

Thanks in advance for any ideas on the problem

1) Odd problem, always worth an upgrade to be careful not to waste money/time fixing something already fixed.
2) what phones are involved in this? for instance x-lite has an advanced networking "feature" that will happily terminate a call when there are network problems (even though the call is working fine ...). I'm not sure why this is a feature, but it is! LOL
3) Try to isolate portions of the problem. Different soft phones, workstations, carriers and see if anyone is more prone or completely immune. Then you'll be able to track it down.

we don't use soft phones, we use an FXS SIP gateway, Audiocode MP124.

OK well after hearing back from the provider(Intelepeer), seems they implemented a cap on call length(among other things, a week ago), which was yup you guessed it 15 minutes.

So it would seem that the "Zombie" Channel is what it becomes when the system sees the call as being Hung-up or disconnected from the customers end making it a "Dead" call

so you should test with a generic sip carrier to see what the behavioral differences are. then investigate how you can convince the gateway to follow the rules or adjust your asterisk settings to account for the differences.

start with a simple comparison of a generic sip carrier call (start to termination) to a call through the gateway. See where they differ and work from there.
