I am looking at the install manual for vicibox 7, I see a part here where it says You can use a program called vicbox-upgrade. I want to be able to do this remotely, i want to know a few things

1. Will it mess with Yast in anyway. (might be doing this remotely, so i want to make sure doing it remotely is a option)
2. will all my vicidial settings stay the same.. camps, users, phones, dialplans or will they all have to be redone.
3. Basicly also will this give me vicidial 7 with asterisk 11

At the moment the vicidial version is ViciBox Redux v.6.0.4, i dont know how to check.

1) No, yast is always configured by user
2) User data is stored in Database, if you migrate you database - everything will remain in place. Migration is part of the upgrade process
3) You will get Vicibox 7 package components, this includes new versions of various packages including asterisk version 11

I caution against upgrading production system without good backup plan in case things go south, upgrades can be explosive, especially with new packages

Save copy of your database, recordings and other files and customizations, just in case you need to rebuild your system from fresh install. I would recommend just cloning your ssd/hdd for good measure and peace of mind.

Good luck.

When you say package components, does that mean that the stuff still has to be installed afterwords, or is that just a way of saying it will be there.

The system is newer and there is not that much information in the system. The plan is do the upgrade on saturday remotely, and if things go south, go up sunday and it with the standard ISO method, so it will be wiped one way or another.

thank you for the help. But using this method is pretty much automatic other then some yes and no stuff here and there. I guess i am asking if there is a difference between a ISO install and a upgrade

I think there may be a misunderstanding here.

Vicibox Upgrade will not upgrade the Vicibox Version. It is a "simpler upgrader" for Vicidial. It will (if it runs happily and without error) remove the need to MANUALLY upgrade the Database and Vicidial scripts to the latest version of Vicidial (just a bit of automation :) ).

This will not in any way alter OS or Software packages outside Vicidial SCRIPTS. It's the equivalent of following the UPGRADE instructions which are step-by-step instructions to upgrade the Database (to the newest schema) and then acquire the newest Vicidial perl and php scripts via SVN UP and then "reinstall" over top of the previous vicidial scripts. This will overwrite any altered scripts if there is a new version available for any of them, but not touch any files for which there is no new version.

It will not result in a more recent version of Asterisk or any other software packages. Just Vicidial scripts.

If you were to read the Vicibox 7.0 Installation Manual ... on page 13 ... entitled "ViciBox Upgrade"

The upgrade script in 7 uses a new upgrade process that works better then the one that was in 6. It's worth downloading the ISO and booting from it just to copy this to your old setup.

But like was mentioned, the vicibox-upgrade script is just a way to simplify upgrades of ViciDial. It doesn't do anything with the OS or it's installed packages.

Thanks, i was just trying to save a 1 and half our drive, but it sounds like i am just better off going on site and doing it, i want to do this mainly because of the autodetruct bug that i am getting with asterisk 8 on vicidial 6. I never got a true answer on the issue, and i know a lot of people have had it. so hopefully doing asterisk 11 with vici 7 will resolve it

I hope one day we could do that Kumba ....
