The stock installation of Vicidial includes letters in the extension (ie: cc101) but only numbers in the dialplan entry (ie: 101).

It is also a good idea to use numbers ONLY for the agent phone login password, since this will be used to check voicemail from the agent's phone (no letters possible).

It is also a good idea to use letters AND numbers for the phone registration as this is more secure (upper/lower and numbers, mixed).

But to answer your question about how extensions and dialplan numbers are used throughout the entire system would require reprinting the paid version of the Vicidial Manager's Manual to cover all possibilities. 95% of which you'll never know about, much less use. Go with this advice and you'll likely be just fine until you know a LOT more about Vicidial ... and even then, these settings are quite acceptable.
