Hi,

I am creating a Cluster with 1 DB server, 1 Web Server and 8 Telephony servers using Vicibox 8.0 ISO. I have installed the database server using vicibox-install script with expert mode selected and selecting only DB+WEB role for it. Everything is good for this server and vicidial reports page shows entry of this server but things get interesting when I install web server.
I used vicibox-install script again on 2nd server with expert mode enabled and selected Slave DB+web role for it. It all went fine and server was added fine but there is no entry in servers table and therefor it doesn't appear in the reports page also. server entry in 'vicibox' table is fine however. I suspect it could be due to legacy mode not enabled? I am considering re installing web server and using legacy mode... can someone please shed some light on why it happens? Previously I used to select Legacy mode and entries in DB were fine.

1) The Vicibox .iso installers have a longer version, please include the whole thing not just the "8.0".

2) Why not use the latest which is presently 8.1.2?

3) This is by design. Web servers do not need an entry in the servers table

4) You should always install web and dialer on all new servers Just In Case you choose to use the other role as well. Just don't use the role you don't want, dormant roles don't use enough power that anyone (to date) has noticed in our hundreds of installs.

5) If you MUST have your web server visible in "servers" (Not a bad reflex, really) ... feel free to hit "new server" and add it. Won't hurt anything.

2. Kind of used to with this release as using it for production. However as you mentioned in your point#3 that this is by design and not an issue then I think it will be same on latest version. Also waiting for some bug fixes that come with new releases - lol. I will definitely install latest release on next server.

3. Ok great. That's relief (used to install all roles previously so didn't encountered it before)

4. Ok noted. as mentioned in above point I used to install both roles on non-db servers previously but tried to assign specific roles this time

5. Ok sure, great point... done previously with some servers but wanted some confirmation as it is a big client and recently we are facing some odd issues

Shouldn't make a difference, however you may find asterisk installed but not running. In which case grabbing the version now while you're on the topic may be ... useful in a few months, should you ever decide to wake this server up.

Note that when you have a dedicated web server, you'll likely want to increase the available apache processes to avoid running out. /etc/apache2/server-tuning.conf increase the prefork and workers. Pretty sure there are some threads on the topic in here somewhere, perhaps a mention in the manual as well.

I also like to enable the apache status module. In /etc/apache2/default-server.conf

Awesome tip for apache status

Every instance is different. You're experience will be unique. Watch with the status monitor and wait for ... problems. Then fix 'em IF there are any.

I will keep an eye and check for any issues that pop up..
