Display Custom Field Date Of Birth In US Format

I want to change the custom field "date of birth" to be displayed as mm-dd-yyyy (US Format). Its currently displayed in the yyyy-mm-dd format. I've been searching for a way to do this but haven't found a way to achieve this. Also, is there a way to to put a script in a custom field to calculate Age from "date of birth"?

Neither of those are options currently, although they could certainly be added.
