Ingroups - Difference between HOLD and WAIT state

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I've gone and confused my brain.
When it comes to ingroups, what exactly is the difference between a call in the HOLD state and a call in the WAIT state? And in which circumstances will a call enter each state?
