What setup would be best?

g729 codecs on agentphones
g729 codecs on siptrunk

Or
Ulaw on agentphones
g729 codecs on siptrunk

Agents bandwith is not an issue

Only the siptrunks bandwith is

Ok fine, but will it be "lesser" transcoding when using ulaw on agentsphone and g729 on siptrunk?

anytime you go from one codec to another transcoding is required.. whether its gsm->g729 ulaw->g729 etc.. If you wish to spend the extra $$ on agent phones capable of g.729 and the extra licenses that is of course an option

and I think that will also double the transcoding if you go to

g729 on agent -> g729 to sip trunk.

I believed it has been discussed before. Its quite an acceptable use will be ulaw going to the vicidial server and g729 going to the sip provider.
