Postby asterisk_at_my_risk » Thu Oct 19, 2006 11:23 am

hello i am trying to use free version of g729 from http://kvin.lv/pub/Linux/Asterisk
but whevever i place codec_g729-gcc-pentium4.so in /usr/lib/asterisk/modules
and do the following changes in codec_g729-gcc-pentium4.so

chmod 755 /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/codec_g729-gcc-pentium4.so in
chown root.root /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/codec_g729-gcc-pentium4.so in

now i did a killall -9 asterisk and asterisk -vvvvvgc

[app_playback.so] => (Sound File Playback Application)
== Registered application 'Playback'
[format_g723.so] => (G.723.1 Simple Timestamp File Format)
== Registered file format g723sf, extension(s) g723|g723sf
[codec_g729-gcc-pentium4.so]Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Have you tried posting on the Asterisk-users mailing list or the digium forums?

This is not really a VICIDIAL issue.

Also

do you know using g729 codecs in a commercial settings violates digium's rights?

Support asterisk, get a licensed one. Heck they gave us asterisk which is free.

boss op3r, the poster said he's just tryin' it hehehe.

@asterisk_at_my_risk
You should consider buying licenses if you are going to use g729 for commercial purposes just like mr op3r said. You'll get support from it as well.
