MYSQL.sock missing

Mysql.sock file has been accidentally deleted can some one help me how to rcover it

Have you stopped and started MySql?

yes but mysql status is showing failed at the startup and efforts to start have failed

What's the Linux distribution you're using? Can you post the error messages when you're starting Mysql?
