waiting for ring....

hey everyone!
everything is working great with the dialer in manual mode except for the fact that it displays an error "dial timed out - please contact your system administrator" and continues to display "waiting for ring" and no live call even when there is someone on the line.
i am thinking it is also the reason i cant get the autodialer to work either. again - the calls are being connected and there are voices on the line - calls can be dispositioned, etc. but i dont believe its detecting that the calls are live.
suggestions?
