Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a DB driven IVR?

He seeks an IVR that is not "static" in the configuration files, but pulls its steps/stages from a table. recordings, "if X is pressed, go to extension Y", both X and Y would be stored in a table instead of flat .conf file.

this would allow a "non-vicidial/non-asterisk" programmer to modify a database that would alter the dialplan WITHOUT learning asterisk (and allow automated software control of the dialplan also)

Thanks William for the Explanation.

in essence the remote agent active/inactive qualifies, as do "external" phones in admin->phones. although those are run from an agi (the agi calls the data from the database to make the decision) instead of calling the sql data directly from the dialplan, that is still an example of data driven.

Thanks for the explanation William. Now, doesn't Vicidial already save all the data in the database and then dump it into the config files every minute? So that way, the developers could make those changes to the database and expect to reflect within the minute.

within the minute is NOT good enough for many people. but that is a good point.

some things in the vicidial system are never stored to a conf file (like remote agent extensions and DID routing).

and we have not even discussed asterisk's realtime method. SOME things cannot be managed via realtime, but most useful stuff that's dynamic can be.

Hi,

I can do this but it will work only with remote agents. In live agent cases it will not work for sure.

Also reports will not be correct.

You can use vicidial as a dialer only. no good report. no live agent transfer

Vicidial now supports the ability to "drop to menu" from Survey. This could be used to initiate a database driven multi-question survey system. It's in another post from yesterday.

The details of how it seems to work suggest that a non-vicidial survey may be more useful; however I have not yet "checked" to see exactly how it is expected to work in Vicidial.

We do have a database driven survey system that is already designed as a "destination" from either Vicidial or FreePBX, which could fit very nicely (including mysql data storage of responses, and the ability to record verbal responses if that data type is chosen). May one day end up as either part of or an add-on for Vicidial.
