DID extensions

Can somebody give me a quick understanding of how extensions relate to setting up a DID in ViciDial and what you need to provide to your SIP provider?

In ViciDial I have setup a DID (not sure if the extension there is correct though) and an in-group... my SIP provider has told me that I need to peg which extension I want to send DID calls to (I guess I don't have a default... ?) and that's where I'm a little lost.

I saw something in the extensions.conf file which said something about inbound DID calls for viciDial, but it was somthing like _999099*... is that the extension to use?
