Installation problem again.

Postby ndimension » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:39 am

Hi. After a few weeks of other stuff i deciced to run goautodial. Again :d

To directly quote from my first thread:

ndimension wrote:Downloaded the latest iso file, burned.

Boot from CD, first screen shows up (enter to begin/expert and enter for advanced setup).
I press enter.
After some seconds i get this:

mounting /tmp as ramfs ...done
running install...
running /sbin/loader
_

nothing happens after this.
.

Goautodial 2.0 ce.
The iso is fine, the checksum is ok, the cd is fine too. Everything here is ok.

Computer specs are:
- ddr2 800mhz
- pentium dual 3ghz
- hdd is generic ide from segate
- motherboard: asus p5kpl-am
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_ ... ifications

Also, after trying to install some other Centos-based server I got exactly the same result - but - according to some Centos "pros" my hardware is ok. I personally believe its either a motherboard chipset or motherboard drive-controller, but have no idea how to be SURE before I buy a new mb.

Any ideas?

Is there a reason you "Must" have CentOS? You could certainly try a Vicibox install.

Of course, you can also try a "Pure" CentOS from a stock CentOS server install .iso. Perhaps the installer modifications are interfering with something essential.

Also, consider VicidialNOW (older .iso, may work with older board!) and/or Vicibox 1.0.0RC2 (older Vicibox on Ubuntu).

Dragged my fathers' old computer out.

ddr2 512 mb.
cpu: Celeron 2400
motherboard: asrock p4-vt8+

The installation went smooth, no problems at all. If anyone can make some sense of it, feel free to post.

Solved 4 me.

Hands-Free is "A" main feature, not necessarily "The". It also has a prettier agent screen and some OS interface additions within the web interface.

BUT it is not supported by The Vicidial Group and does not automatically install the 2.4 (SVN, Developer Trunk) version of the software.

I consider the lack of Vicidial Group support to be fairly hefty "importance-wise", but if you do not ... it does have a pretty screen missing in Vicibox. And for those who require CentOS (or are merely "into" CentOS), it is very handy.

On any machine that will NOT install GoAutoDial, you should consider Vicibox (even if only to find out if it will work, but you may also install SVN and see if there are any cool toys you'd like to have in your Vicidial).

IF you find hardware that Will install Vicibox but NOT GoAutoDial, post the versions of the installers in question along with the motherboard ID. Let the community in on the information, every bit helps. We've found a few that work on only one distro and not the other, and that is valuable information to someone trying to install either one.

Yep! That's the one of the philosophies behind GoAutoDial. To have a hands-free straight forward installation. Also since it's based on CentOS which in turn is based on RedHat, system stability is superb. You get an easy to install Vicidial Linux distribution that is stable and easy to use. Plus if you need professional help, you can count on the GoAutoDial team.

Would you advise, then, that our first full-release of Vicidial on Ubuntu should have a "no questions asked" full install option?

Obviously with a warning of THIS WILL DELETE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR HARD DRIVE, but otherwise as little or no interaction if possible?

Really depends on what you want to achieve. If it's simple installation then yes. If you want more control then add that option (like an EXPERT mode - we have that too).
