Why so much difference ??

I am TIRED of one issue with Vici.

I use g729.

I have configured my Xlite with cc101.

When I directly dial using my xlite as 911+ 10 digit USA number, Qlty is awesome.

When I log in to the agent screen and take calls predictively, volume is very low.

I tried using VoiceTime, there was a difference but not drastic.

Then why there is a drastic difference in sound qlty , even if both uses same asterisk , same bandwidth, same VOIP, same xlite, same login ?

Which G729 codec are you using?

"directly dial using my xlite"? g729? (direct dial ... through asterisk? or DIRECT dial through your provider?)

x-lite does not use g729 ... In x-lite Options, Advanced, Audio Codecs: BroadVoice-32, ulaw, alaw .. no g729.

the question is whether your box will generate the call in g729 when you are dialing directly with g729 AND when dialing through autodial

when a call is in progress, "sip show channels" the form column will have the protocol of the call(s) in progress. verify that your x-lite call directly is indeed ulaw

if "transcoding" is involved, the meetme room may be the culprit.

Q : Which G729 codec are you using?
A : Not the Digium one but the other one with hosting keyword in it. :-)

Q : "directly dial using my xlite"? g729? (direct dial ... through asterisk? or DIRECT dial through your provider?)
A: My xlite configured with cc101 through my Vici.My provider doesnt allow G711 or any other Codec apart from G729 but still calls get through. I am using Xlte but calls going through as g729.

Q : when a call is in progress, "sip show channels" the form column will have the protocol of the call(s) in progress. verify that your x-lite call directly is indeed ulaw

A : Shows G729. Agree with Xlite and Ulaw.

Q : if "transcoding" is involved, the meetme room may be the culprit.

A : Didn't understand this line but I think what you meant to say is Xlite uses G711 or ulaw and Asterix sends calls as G729. So, there is a conversion if call from Ulaw to G729. Meetme is involved in that ? If Meetme is the culprit then how to resolve it ?

But If I use Eyebeam instead of Xlite , sound qulaity will be different and very good as No transcoding involved ?

G711 or ULaw : Can run more seats on a server but Need More Bandwidth But sound quality is very good

G729 : Can run less seats but Need less Bandwidth But sound quality is NOT very good as compare to G711 or ulaw.

Now a days Bandwidth are cheap. India , it cost 4 MB bandwidth at 500$ monthly. So, preferable to use g711 or ulaw OVER G729 ?

Q : "directly dial using my xlite"? g729? (direct dial ... through asterisk? or DIRECT dial through your provider?)
A: My xlite configured with cc101 through my Vici.
so x-lite is ulaw to asterisk, asterisk dials out without a "meetme" room, converts the call to g729 and sends it out and THAT call sounds good.

but when you dial through vicidial (logged in agent), you are in a meetme room. the call is generated and answered and when vicidial "chooses" an agent for the call, it places the call into a meetme room with you. Meetme rooms require transcoding, so when you are in a meetme room and generating the call there is a deeper timing issue involved (transcoding is ALL about timing!!).

If ztdummy is installed, this usually isn't an issue unless you have high call traffic or low or unreliable bandwidth.

i'd try a test with a different provider (to be funny) and with ViciBox or ViciBox Redux.

Otherwise, you are likely to have to look deep into the workings of the meetme room and transcoding to find your weirdness.

unless this is a P3 or a Virtual box, I can't think of a reason for it (unless of course a driver failed to load, or ztdummy isn't installed).

you could also try the USB timing card and see if that helps you out (I believe EFLO actually offers this item these days). timing is ESSENTIAL for meetme rooms, and Vicidial relies HEAVILY on meetme rooms to function.

that's all i got man. hope it helps.

back to work.
