2 Lan Cards on server Configuration

Postby vkjalan » Mon Oct 18, 2010 1:39 pm

Dear Members,
I have a Intel xeon dual core 2.8 Ghz processor machine with intel motherboad, 4 Gb ram and 500 GB hardisk,

Today when i was trying to install the GoAutoDial CE 2.0 it wall went fine.
I have 2 network cards on my machine.
The setup is as follows. I want one network card to work for the internal network and the other for external static ip. The internal network gets the internet from the other lan card. I dont have a router installed on the network.

But i am not being able to setup the network. When i try and give the details of the static ip on one card and the lan ip on the other card using the SETUP command it accepts the changes but just does not detect the network. I cant ping internal network nor the external network.

Please help me as this needs to be done on urgent basis.

Thank you.
Vinith.

Only GoAutoDial CE 2.0 is installed and no other addons.

set it up with the external network first. Use another external ip address to verify the system is "up" and running COMPLETELY.

then set up the 2nd NIC without altering any settings on your original NIC at all. Be sure not to enter a gateway for the 2nd NIC (as it does not have internet access).

if necessary, do this directly in the configuration files for the networking to be sure nothing affects the original network card settings that already work.

you do not set up the external network by logging into a GUI. (if your network isn't set up yet, you cannot access the box ... so this is all done during installation directly at the console of the machine)

if you follow the normal installation instructions and use only the external network interface while doing so (ignoring the existence of the internal network card) and get the dialer up and running with that, adding another network interface is not complex, merely technical.

during this installation you will need ANOTHER external network connection to be able to access and use the box AFTER installation. (even a wifi connection will do for this purpose, it is merely for testing purposes)

So follow the standard directions and get it working on the external network FIRST. It may even be necessary (or simpler, depending on how you look at it) to remove the unused network card to be sure that the one you are setting up in the installation is the correct one.

AFTER that is done, and the system is operational (tested and capable of dialing out) ... add the 2nd network card. As long as you never modify the already running network card, you won't mess up VICIdial's functionality.

Well thank you for your reply.

But I am installing Goautodial 2.0 CE and there is no option available during setup to configure the Lan cards.

My main concern is that i dont know what are the commands to configure the lan cards in Goautodial 2.0 CE.

Waiting your kind response.

As far as I know several hundred people have used it to successfully install VICIdial. So just install it with the wire connected to the external NIC and not to the NIC you want to use for internal. (or TAKE OUT the network card you want to use for internal so the only card that could possibly be configured automatically will be the external card). Just do a standard installation.

AFTER that standard installation is done (using the standard manual, set up the way everyone else does it), you can investigate how to add another card.

What directions are you using to install?

Dear Sir,
I use the ISO downloaded from www.GoAutodial.com version 2.0 CE, I burned the cd and just installed it on the server without giving any inputs from my side.

Now i was wondering how do i configure the lan cards. I mean what is the command is it ' SETUP " or something else.

I am not being able to find or use the interface from where I could do the settings for the Lan card.

I hope you are understanding my difficulty.
Thank you.

maybe that link should be on the download page (i know you make $$ from support, but ... it may be helpful to put the link to the manual on the download page in the "Help" area and offer to help those for whom the manual is not sufficient ...?)

Dear Sir,
I have already gone through the manual in detail. the problem is in the step where in the installation is complete and i finish login in to the system using

Login -- root

Password -- vicidialnow

Now if i am not being able to configure the information for the lan cards itself how will access

Open http://192.168.1.2/ using Firefox on the network.

I need to configure the lan card using the Terminal/SSH mode for which i need the commands. I tried using netconfig or setup command but the server just does not get connected to the network.

Please help me with the command to change the Ip address of the system using Terminal/SSH mode.

Waiting your kind response.

connect your PC and the GoAutoDial server to a switch. Configure your PC to have the IP address "192.168.1.3" with a subnet mask of "255.255.255.0". Then you'll be able to log on to 192.168.1.2 and configure the GoAutoDial server.

If you don't have a switch handy, use the local area network ports of a router (which is actually a switch if you don't connect it to the internet, nothing in the internet or WAN port).

It is on the download page since version 2.0 came out. Most users probably just hit download and not look for anything else than having the ISO downloaded.

True enough:

GoAutoDial CE 2.0 also comes pre-configured with our SIP gateway. Loaded with $0.5 credits it let's you dial US and Canada numbers immediately.

Some people may not connect that to an active link between your system and theirs upon installation, causing firewall traffic ... but then again how else can you make it EASY (it's configured, it's ON and it "just works" ...).

And that is the goal of the original VICI .iso: make it simpler so more people who have NO experience with this sort of thing can EASILY get in the game. :)

I'm with ya on that one.
