Voice Recordings (WAV)

Postby Janky » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:42 pm

any suggestions or opinions on the best method of creating voice recordings for things such as IVR or survey campaigns the reason i ask is obviously the files have to be in the recommended wav format currently I have had to take the recorded wav file and convert it to the proper format or to a .gsm file with a small script i wrote but this can be time consuming.

I would like a method or a program that i can use to record the files directly into the proper format, or maybe just the details of the correct format settings i should save the file in up until now i have had no luck getting any wav file to work no matter the format only .gsm files so i am assuming i am not doing something properly.

Any advice is appreciated.

1) when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

2) In case you didn't catch that, there's a manual with directions that include dialing 8167 from a phone in the system ... look that up, may be helpful.

3) Sox will convert anything, pretty much, you can toss at it and is already in your system.

4) You COULD take an existing file into your sound software and find out what it is considered, and then create all new recordings in that same format. That works, too, if your sound software can generate it.

Postby striker » Sat Oct 29, 2011 2:11 am

hi

Use the Ease audio converter to convert you recorded voice from any format to 16bit Mono 8k PCM WAV audio files(.wav) .

d link: http://audiotool.net/download/audioconverter.exe

you need to set the wav format settings to 16bit mono 8Kpcm in the ease audio software.

the converter files are ready to upload for ivr and survey

Thanks for the information striker i am going to take a look at this conversion software.

@williamconley i did not see much of a reason to provide any of systems information as this question was not related to my system or its specs but only to methods of creating a certain format of audio file.

I think what my question should have been in the beginning is, does any one recommend a good program for recording/mixing audio files that will allow me to save the output in the correct format (16bit Mono 8k PCM WAV audio files(.wav) avoiding the fact that you can call into an extension to create a recording. Which I am aware of from reading and purchasing the manager manuals although this method does not provide me any features of recording a quality greeting/recording.

on the other hand, of course, you are using free open source software and asking advice on the free forum and getting advice from others on that forum which is also free.

and since you have little experience with the software ... what if you were wrong and there was something specific about your version/distro/install that WAS related to sound? what if gardo had included a sound converter in GoAuto?

i mean the point here is that you do NOT know, which is why you're asking ... so supplying this basic information may one day cause you to get an answer you may otherwise NOT get.

not like it's a hard information to find.

but it's your call. 8-)

My apologies if my last response crossed you the wrong way. I was only trying to better explain my thoughts in the reason for the question. Thank you for letting me know that there could be possible differences in the software and its management of audio files between versions. Is there a converter in GoAuto? I have not seen it.

I do not know if goauto or vicibox have or have plans for a converter for the audio store, but it sure makes sense to add one (since sox is already installed, having a script detect various audio versions and "convert" to the "preferred" version in all cases would seem to make sense ... but I guess no one has paid for it yet!)
