After you go through the Scratch Install and make it work, the Manager's Manual will take you step by step through the inbound process. It's easy if you follow the instructions. Buy the manager's manual, it will save you a lot more money than it costs (or pay a consultant to do it for you, but if you learn how, you'll be able to do it again for free).
No, you do not need any hardware. But you do need an inbound VOIP phone account. Read around the VOIP sites, there are a lot of them. Some of them require the ability to call you before they will activate your account, so don't wait to start the account, do it now.
