extensions.conf configuration

Hi to all, i am a newby in asterisk, i installed vicidialnow 1.1
and set up what i think is the SIP trunk in sip.conf, the thing is i am not quite sure how to configure the dialplan in extensions.conf, i have been reading tutorials but i have still a lot to learn.

Is there a more easy way to learn to configure the extensions.conf file, or could some one help on guiding me a bit?

Do i have to erase the default info in extensions.conf or comment it?

there seems to be a lot of info there that could interfere with the configuration.

You can just comment them out so that it's easy to go back to the available examples. I would recommend going over the scratch install document so that you have more knowledge of your system.
