VICIDIAL ON REMOTE SERVER

Postby krishnarc5 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 3:06 pm

Is it a good idea to install VICIDIAL to install on remote server - like VMware or Amazon's EC2?. What are the limitations and challenges involved?
Which remote server server works better ?

If you keep the load low (less than 5 agents) it is mostly functional on most virtual Machines. The more load you put on it the worse the audio quality will be. OpenVZ seems to be the best option, but still you would are better off using a dedicated hardware installation.

You will not be able to use Amazon's system because you cannot compile kernel modules like zaptel (a requirement for Vicidial). The source code and kernel that you see inside your virtual machine is not the kernel that actually gets loaded. The real kernel and it's modules reside outside the virtual machine's file system. Amazon's project is based on XEN.

Also all Virtual machines for the most part completely lack a real time clock which is what ztdummy uses. There are ways to make it work without one though, but it requires altering the code for ztdummy.

Hi All,

Just searching the thread regarding what mcargile mentioned regarding compile issues on kernel modules like zaptel. Is this has been resolved already, i'm currently performing scratch installation of vicidial and everytime i'm zaptel, server crashes.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
