Any suggestions on how to go about upgrading the VicidialNow 1.2 installed kernel to a 64 bit setup?

Yes! Try Gentoo.
CentOS is painful to modify. The folks at VicidialNOW fought the battle and won, but I've not heard of anyone ELSE doing it.
I don't know anyone using Ubuntu 64 (although it bet there are lurkers, hey! speak up!). I have a couple boxes on Gentoo64 and it seems to run very cleanly. Maybe I should get permission to fire up "VicidialGentoo" and upload to sourceforge (32 and 64 bit versions ...)? As an .iso of course.
