The company bought a system from vicidial. Now i am testing and wont go into production right away. I am doing a test run on a old system to make sure that when i get a good system i know what do to.
Downloaded vicidial 64bit server. I want to use it as storage for recordings and make backups of the database. I just got down with phase-1 install and now wondering which one should i choose. Go wit the database install or go with the archive install? Or should i do both cause that is what i am trying to do?
Thank you

Alrighty, i think i did something wrong. I did everything in phase-1, i even did the update which i believe is zyyper. I also did the archive setup first, was i supposed to do the database first then archive, cause after i ran the archive setup, then tried to run the database i get this error "If 'vicibox-db' is not a typo you can use command not found to lookup the package that contains it, like this cnf vicibox-db". What should i do other than try and install it again.
Thank you

Did the install file name change? i can't find anything that says vicibox-db, i find a vicibox-install, but not -db.

It is vicibox-install. Then during the install you choose the role of the server. The documentation is a bit outdated.

This is only going to be your archive/backup server right? If so then why do you want to log into it via the web interface?

so i take it once i get through phase 1.5 which is i assume is the os update process and as soon as i go through the archive setup, i am done.
I thought that i could access the new server through a web interface to work on it and see what settings i have available to me. I am very new to linux and vicidial. So all i would have to do is once i get through phase-1.5 and reboot all i have to do is run archive and done, then go to the dialer that is in use, and just add the server ip to the alternate recording server in the server settings, then done?
Thank you

i take that i am right, in assuming that once its all said and done, all i need to do is enter ip and test.

No, i haven't had time yet, i am just finishing setting up the new office.
But i do have a question, does the archive setup just does recordings or can it do both a database backup and recording backup?
Or would i have to setup 2 servers, one for database backup and another for recording?

K i am more settled in now at the new place, and i am going to attempt to make a archive server install for recordings today. I'm reading the clustering guide and from what i read the current server i have (and i may be wrong) is setup for a small office max 25 user (any more there will be performance issues), but i believe my installation on the server is for all 3 types of server installed in one server(for a small office). So if i wanted to add a archive server for recording i would just use the regular 32bit install and not the 64bit install and setup the archive.
am i missing a step please let me know and any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Here goes attempt #1, lol

Good luck!
Sounds like you are on the right track. Use the cd to set up DB, Telephony and Web on the one server and then the same cd to load archive on the other.

Well i already have a server setup like that, i want to start backing up the recordings cause the harddrive is already at 50% full. So what you are saying is use the 64 bit install cd to setup the archive server, instead of the 32bit install???

It doesn't matter which one you use.

K just got done with the install and the os update. Now i am just making sure, since i already have a server with database, web server and telephony server all in one. I would skip the database option in the cluster guide and go right to the archive setup. Or do i have to have the database installed first in order for the archive setup to function properly?? Just wanna make sure. Oh and this a test server so if i mess up i can start all over again.

I am so, so, so, sorry to keep posting such simple questions. But for archive purpose would going through phase 1.5 (OS Update) for the archive help or it doesn't matter???

I am no expert. I would say there is no reason not to update the OS anyway although it is not required. This is after all just an archive server.

@dj mondo
Any FTP server will do, i've tried it on a Windows Based, Linux Based FTP as long as you set the right credentials for the USER that you will use.
Best of luck ...

Thank you randy for the advice, i really do appreciate it. But i do believe its done, i have a test archive server. I was able to enter the
http://server ip/archive and i show index of archive, so i guess i set it up correctly. Now what would be a best practice to test this while dialer is still in use. Any tips on testing the archive server??
Thank you

i also have a test campaign setup on the working dialer. How could i test the archive server, by using that campaign, cause the lists that i have in the test campaign, have had the phone number change to my cell phone. I am going through the manual now but not finding what i am looking for as far as testing the archive server, and not lose a recording (cause this is a test run, i will be reinstall when i am done testing).
Thank you

I have good testing questions, I just got done building an archive server for recordings. Could i use the live demo cd to test that server, see if it will store the recordings and able to listen to them??
Thank you

the only reason why i ask the question is for testing, cause if i can't test the server i built now i have to wait till sat night in order to test. Reason i ask is cause if i can do this and it works, it means i built the archive server correctly and i can take it out of testing and really build it and then on sat just put it into production.

k tried to do backup to the archive server this weekend and something went wrong, for some strange reason, the ftp service was not working. So i am going to take the server home with me and reinstall everything. Any tips that would make the ftp portion work properly. I went through some of the sticky posts that helps setup up the ftp, but those didn't work. Any other thing i can try during the reinstall.
Thank you

K i finally got a good install going. Now i found this on the net and wanted to know how accurate this is or are there some changes that i need to take into consideration. I was planning and doing this along with the archive install, is that something i do or no?

For the DB backup I have this in my crontab:
### Backup every night
45 23 * * * /usr/share/astguiclient/ADMIN_backup.pl --ftp-transfer
Backs the DB up every night and sends it off to the FTP server. Works like a charm

K i don't know what went wrong again, it was the same issue i had last week. I have everything ready to go but when i ran the ftp script on the dialer it could not find the archive server i created. Its like the ftp was not working on the archive server?
Thank you

If the archive server rebooted and you did not set it up to auto-start the ftp service ...

k i believe i am have everything running, ftp service is started. Now i get this error when i try to login:
viciexp:/ # ftp 192.168.1.200
Connected to 192.168.1.200.
220-Welcome to Pure-FTPd.
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 17:08. Server port: 21.
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Name (192.168.1.200:root): root
331 User root OK. Password required
Password:
530 Login authentication failed
ftp: Login failed.
I tried this on both servers and i get the same error on both of them? Any clue why this would be doing this.
Thank you

in which case you are not done with setting up the ftp server. if root cannot log in, either you have to log in as someone else or you have to modify it so root can log in. vicidial can't send files to a server it cannot log into.

K i couldn't get the backups to work with the archive setup so i went with windows and filezilla. I got the backup to work manually but auto is not working. I added the following to the crontab,
###Daily backup
47 23 *** /usr/share/astguiclient/ADMIN_backup.pl
after that i rebooted the system, and it has not done the backup. I follow the poundteam cluster guide. i also added the ftp credentials to astguiclient, for recordings and database, and the backup did not run or move the recordings. Am i missing a step or something.
Thank you

K i finally got backups working on a new server, the old one died.
New server specs:
Windows Server 2003
Filezilla
Intel Core i5 - quad core
8gigs of memory
Raid 1 (didn't have enough drives for raid 5)
So I got the recording to backup script to run via ftp, but the ADMIN_backup.pl, did not run, even though i added it to the crontab. Would it be the backup file or the crontab, cause i can run it manually and will work fine, but when its time to do it automatically it won't.
Thank you
