I am unclear on a couple steps (because I am a noobie)

16. Type in the Default Gateway Address for your network; If you are using the offline installation method then this field is optional

So on my router I can find the 'default gateway address. Is this what I enter? Is there anything else I need to enter in this step?

17. Press ALT-S to configure the domain name servers

What is a domain name server? What do I enter here?

Yes, the default gateway address is the one you found on your router

Domain Name Server (DNS)-- you can either use the one on your router, or you could use any other DNS server (assuming you do not need name resolution in your own environment, but from the sounds of it, you probably dont.) For example, google DNS is 8.8.8.8 - primary... and 8.8.4.4 secondary.

Remember, for questions like this, Google is your friend and will probably answer your questions long before a forum will.

Thanks for the reply

regarding the DNS, on my router I can see DNS1, DNS2, and DNS3. Is this what I am looking for or is the DNS specific for the server and not found on the router?

Also, regarding the subnet mask, on my router it says: 255.255.252.0 but if I enter ifconfig on the server it says: 255.255.255.0 so which one it is?

thanks

For sure but I want to be sure I am doing the right thing - a little vicidial hand holding for a newbie.

And I am curious... is it me or did this forum used to be a lot busier?
