vicidial server 3.1.13 install issue

Postby vishal » Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:16 pm

I have installed vicidial server 64 bit version 3.1.13.
I am able to access it through the web console also. But when I restart the vicidial server, it is stuck up at "Booting from Disk".
What is the issue? Please help.

Baby steps. You say you have installed it, but you have made no mention of where you are in the installation process.

You begin with the installation walk through pdf provided by Vicibox (from the web site) and then you progress to the Vicidial Manager's Manual (from eflo.net) AFTER you have completed ALL the steps in the Vicibox walkthrough.

But you have not mentioned anything about where you are in this process.

So try that again ... and be specific. Quote from the page where you left off. Don't make anyone guess, as they'll likely guess wrong and their help will be of no use to you. 8-)

Also, not a bad idea to mention if you had any "error" responses or if anything was not as the installation manual suggested it would be.

Next: you have not listed your hardware. The age of the hardware is important (bleeding edge new fast cool servers ... likely do not have Linux drivers available as yet, which can cause problems in OpenSuSE, which is Linux).

Hi,

Let me be a bit more specific.
The vicidial server has been installed in a virtualized environment (vmware workstation 7.1).
As I had mentioned, the install was successful and I was able to access the admin console and the reports etc from the web console. But the issue is that when I restart my vicidial server (which is a virtual machine as I mentioned above), it does not boot from the hard disk. It is forever stuck up at "Booting from Disk".
Anything I am missing here?

Yes, you are missing that Vicidial does not work in a virtual environment ... but we use it there for testing (which i presume is what you'll be doing if you can get it to work on reboot).

But this has nothing to do with Vicidial. This has to do with OpenSuSE, as Vicidial processes are not invoked until after almost all other processes are completed.

given the odds, you just had a slight error during installation. but since we are here: "it is stuck forever". What is "it"? Are you looking at a console control panel in the VMWare control system? Are you looking at the "monitor" for the virtual workstation?

We have successful installations in both VMWare (not workstation, Infrastructure Web Access) and Virtualbox. And it will boot just fine if installed on the proper "fake hardware" (ie: 32 bit on the 32 bit SuSE fake hardware, 64 bit on the 64 bit ...). Perhaps you should try a stock install of the same version of OpenSuSE and see if you can get that working, and that same solution should apply to Vicibox (which uses SuSE Studio for .iso creation).
