Vicibox Redux 3.0.5 only see 3.3 GB

Postby phil_discount » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:32 am

Hi guys,

i've got many installation with redux 3.0.5 and all servers have more than 4 GB of RAM and it works.

my BIOS and yast2 see the whole 8 GB of RAM .. but cat /proc/meminfo see only 3.3 GB ..

Where can be the problem?

Hardware:
CPU AMD FX-4100 Quardcore
RAM 2x4GB DDR3 Kingston 1333 MHz
Mainboard: ASUS M5A78L-M-USB3.0

regards
philip

cat /proc/meminfo see only 3.3 GB
when i use cat /proc/meminfo, i get a lot more than "how much is seen". What do you have for "MemTotal:"?

Did you load the 64 bit version or the 32 bit version?

If 32 bit: Are you running the PAE Kernel?

it shows me 3316676 kB
i'm using 32 bit with PAE ..
i use this version on all installations .. so it must be the hardware?

post results from

Code: Select all
uname -r

cat /proc/meminfo
Remember that 32 bit inherently can only access 3.2G of RAM, so the PAE kernel should be there to get it past that. However: I do not have any systems running 32 bit with more than 2G of RAM.

Why did you not use 64 bit? :)

redux 64 bit db
? I think you should post the entire filename of the iso you are talking about. Perhaps you have not actually installed it?

linux 2.6.34.7-0-2-default
not a pae kernel

XXXX:~ # uname -a
Linux pt38 2.6.27.45-0.1-pae #1 SMP 2010-02-22 16:49:47 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
note the "pae" ... (I found a client box running 32 bit! with pae!)

ok again:

first i installed vicibox 3.0.5 32bit with PAE kernel
-> 3.3 GB
Linux vicidial 2.6.34.7-0.2-pae #1 SMP 2010-09-14 14:21:06 +0200 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

second i installed vicibox 3.0.5 64bit database only for a test
-> 3.3 GB
Linux vicidial 2.6.34.7-0.2-default #1 SMP 2010-09-14 14:21:06 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

third i installed windows 7 64 bit
-> 8 GB

seems to be a problem with amd processors/mainboards?? becuase every installation i've done with redux 3.0.5 i've got no problems .. but every server works with intel processors
