DNS issues

Hello, I'm experiencing DNS issues and I have no clue what to do.,
I seriously doubt it's at the switch/router level because the workstations are connecting fine and are not experiencing these issues.
whenever I set the IP to static, DNS stop working. My landlord gave me some IPs for the DNS, I set them up in DNS server 1 & 2 but it doesn't seem to be working. I could ping 74.125.226.51 (google server) if I entered it manually but not if I entered www.google.com.
I find it very strange, as I don't have any issues when i use DHCP.
Also: quirk:he told me that I had a static IP range between 1-100. I can set a static IP in that range and it SEEMS to work, but when I use DHCP, it also gives me an address in that range.
