Vicibox Installation Network Settings Help Reqd

Postby vishalt83 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:55 am

Hello All,

I am new to the world of Vicidial and have managed to get my first installation of Vicibox 4 installation done (the latest one)

I have used the ViciBox.x86_64-4.0.3.iso (standard version) for the install.

I followed the following steps --

1) Installed the OS (os-install)
2) Set up the network with a static ip of (10.0.0.XX) series, configured the netmask as 255.255.255.0 and routing as 10.0.0.1 and also have set the DNS properlt
3) Did the vicidial-express installation to install vicidial

The installation went successful and I am able to access the vicidial webpage using another computer in the same network. And can access all the pages and options.

But the problem is two phased...

1) When I try to update using "'zypper refresh" it is not able to contact the web.

What I mean is even when I try to ping any website (eg google) it picks up the IP address (so i am guessing the DNS is properly entered) but there are no reply to the ping. It says destination not reachable. So this is surprising that despite of resolving the IP Address the ping is not successful.

So please assist me as to what I may have done wrong.

2) When I try to change the IP to a global range (203.XXX.XXX.XXX) with the correct settings of the DNS, Gateway and Netmask.

The vicidial server becomes unavailable on that IP, the global IP does not work. Cant even ssh using that IP. the ping to that global IP goes into "Request Not Found". And using the browser to access the vicidial webpage also yields no results

So this one I am even more confused as to what goes wrong when I try to change the IP from local to global.

Ultimately I have to use the global IP for the vicidial server.

Thanks to all in advance.. Please assist me

Either your server is on a local network or it is on a public IP network. If your server has two network ports, it is even possible that the server is on both, but each network port must be on one or the other.

In either case it must have a valid gateway to reach the internet. If it is on the same subnet as other computers, it will share the configuration with them so you may be able to look at other computers to get the configuration information you need.

But to start somewhere, how about you share how you came to choose the settings you used during your first attempt? If you chose 10.0.0.5 (for instance) ... where did you get this number? And what did you mean by "routing as 10.0.0.1"? Was that the gateway? Where did you get this number? And when you say "have set the DNS properly" ... where did you get these numbers?

If you have your server on a local subnet with a router between you and the Internet, DHCP is your best bet to start. Modify the router to "reserve" that IP after it has been assigned so it will never change and you'll be good to go.

If you have your router on a public IP, you'll need to get all the settings from your provider and that public IP must be available all the way to the server (no router between the server and the public internet).
