I followed the walkthrough and vever made itpast step 46

The system rebooted and ask for a login. I logged in with the root user and pass and nothing.

The prompt did say it could not fully disclose the domain name and apache2 was using 96.xx.xxx.xxx.

Tried 3 times did walk through to the letter.

I did not insert a proxy or a domain name left blank as described on walk through. Was that the issue?

No that should not cause a problem. Are you certain you entered the root password correctly. Could you have had Capslock on when you typed it originally?
